How do I know if my wrist pain is serious?

Wrist pain may be serious if you have swelling, bruising, numbness, tingling, weakness, trouble gripping, or pain after a fall. You should also be evaluated if your wrist looks bent, feels unstable, or does not improve after a few days.

Can wrist pain be treated without surgery?

Yes. Many wrist conditions can be treated without surgery. Treatment may include rest, bracing, therapy, medication, injections, or activity changes. Surgery is usually considered when these options do not provide enough relief or when the injury is severe.

What are common signs of carpal tunnel syndrome?

Common signs of carpal tunnel syndrome include numbness, tingling, pain, burning, or weakness in the hand and fingers. Symptoms may be worse at night or during activities that involve gripping or repeated wrist movement.

What is a ganglion cyst?

A ganglion cyst is a noncancerous, fluid-filled lump that often forms near a joint or tendon. Some cysts are painless, while others may cause discomfort, pressure, or limited movement.

Can wrist pain be caused by typing or computer work?

Yes. Repeated typing, mouse use, or poor wrist position can place stress on the wrist. Ergonomic changes, breaks, stretching, bracing, or therapy may help reduce pain and prevent symptoms from getting worse.
